Welcome

Hi folks.  Welcome to A Hundred Tacks.  ”The voyage of the best ship is a zigzag line of a hundred tacks. See the line from a sufficient distance, and it straightens itself to the average tendency.” – Ralph Emerson, in “Self-Reliance,”  or, as Etheridge Knight put it in his monostitch, Evolutionary Poem #1, “Ain’t nobody you can depend on ‘cept yo’self.”  I think Emerson meant that one’s organizing principle is sometimes clearest when seen from a distance.  Trust that it’s there when the wind is tacking you this way and that.  Sounds like a good motto for a new venture.

I’m looking forward to sharing my work and thoughts on music, books, and politics, and to having some fun.  And to learning from the process.  Please let me know what you think as I get this up and running and beyond.  I could use the advice.

So, in the immortal words of anchorman Ron Burgundy, who probably thought transcendentalists filled cavities, “Keep those cymbals splashy…let’s take the bass line for a walk.”
